delegation from NKNU in Taiwan

Dr. Chia-nan Tai, president of National Kaohsiung Normal University and Dr. Rung-sheng Kuo, dean of the NKNU Research and Development Office visited Kalamazoo and Western Michigan University Sept. 23 and 24. The delegation met with WMU President John M. Dunn, Dr. Donald G. McCloud, dean of the Haenicke Institute, and other administrators and faculty from several departments in the interest of fostering increased faculty exchanges.

A Memorandum of Understanding between NKNU and WMU was signed in 1990. At that time, student exchange was difficult as WMU did not have a Chinese program. WMU faculty and the Haenicke Institute have a keen interest in renewing this relationship. In January 2008, NKNU sent 27 graduate students to do independent field research for two weeks on the WMU campus. This was seen by President Tai as a “significant key to strengthening the collaborative alliance between our two universities."
