Objectives and Scope

EDSA was established in March 2, 2007 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization in the State of Michigan. The Association’s objectives are to:

1. Promote research-based knowledge of human development in the areas of economics, education, health, agriculture, environment, and poverty reduction through project development and implementation.

2. Promote research-based and informed peaceful dialogue among Ethiopians and Friends of Ethiopia from around the world, as well as engage in employment creation and income generating activities for Ethiopians.

3. Organize International conferences on Ethiopian Development Studies on critical issues of human development independently and/or in collaboration with other institutions, and publish conference proceedings, occasional books, and development policy briefs.

4. Launch an on line international journal named Journal of Ethiopian Development Studies (JEDS) that will publish selected papers from the conferences subject to review by an international advisory editorial board.

5. Establish a forum for dedicated academics and professionals from around the world committed to peace, development and democratic unity of Ethiopia within diversity.

6.Engage its membership and friends of the Association in collaborative projects, help raise funds, make financial contributions through membership fees and external grant applications to implement its objectives

7. Create a forum of partnership and cooperation between scholars and professionals in Diaspora and Ethiopia that are seriously engaged in the Development of Ethiopia and Northeast Africa.

EDSA is governed by a president and an international advisory board of individuals that share its objectives. It will be inaugurated during the August 2-4, 2007 International Conference on Ethiopian Studies at the business meeting of its founding members.
