WMU Libraries

The Dwight B. Waldo Library,
named after the university's first president, contains over four
million volumes of circulating material, making it the fourth largest
library in the state of Michigan. The Waldo Library, as it is commonly
called, houses general reference materials, science/technology
materials, journals, microforms, prints and electronic subscriptions,
newspapers, bestsellers, records, tapes, machine-readable CD-ROMs, maps
and atlases, slides and U.S. and Michigan government documents. The
library also offers a special collection department, housing over 110
medieval manuscripts and 40,000 rare books.
The Waldo library offers a range of services to its patrons to make thier experience easier and more productive. The Central Reference Department,
located on the first floor of the library, houses about 80 public
workstations where patrons can learn to use the library reseources and
search WestCat, the online library catalog.
The Education Library
, located in Sangren Hall offers over 736,000 items including the
Education Resources Information Center documents and more than 600
periodical titles.
The Harper C. Maybee Music and Dance Library,
located in the Dalton Center, houses over 49,000 books, musical scores
and periodicals. The library also features a collection of over 20,000
sound and video recordings ith available listening facilities.
The Archives and Regional History Collections Library,
located in East Hall on East Campus, houses unique materials on
Southwest Michigan, including manuscripts of its early residents.
The Visual Resources Library
, a new branch library located in Sangren Hall, houses a collection of
over 105,000 slides and other visual materials, with an emphasis on
visual arts and material culture.
