Lecture on Japan's Hidden Christians Sept. 10

The Department of Comparative Religion and the Soga Japan Center, with funding from the Japan Foundation are sponsoring a public lecture on Japan’s Hidden Christians.  The lecture will be held Monday, September 10 at 4:30 p.m. at the Humanities Center (2500 Knauss Hall).

Dr. Megumi Takasaki, Research Assistant at the Institute for Asian Cultural Studies, International Christian University, Tokyo, will present her work on this fascinating aspect of Japanese religion.  Her presentation will look at Japan’s Hidden Christians (kakure kurishitan) as a form of vernacular Christianity.  She will explore the use of pre-modern Hidden Christian texts and imagery as it is used by Hidden Christian groups in the modern period.
