International students dish up food and culture

InternationalWestern Michigan University's 2006 International Festival attracted more than 3,500 people to the Bernhard Center Sunday to sample culinary delights and cultural displays representing 14 countries. The event featured a fashion show for world-wide traditional clothing, ethnic dance and music performances, and artifacts representing each country.

Hailed as WMU's annual global open house, the festival provides an opportunity for the more than 1,500 international students enrolled at WMU to showcase their homeland food and culture for the University community and the community at large.

The festival is organized by the International Programs Council and the Campus Activities Board. Sponsors include the Haenicke Institute's International Students and Services Affairs office, Student Activities and Leadership Programs, Division of Student Affairs, University Cultural Events committee, Graduate Student Advisory Committee, and the Western Student Association.
