Scholarship available for 23 short-term programs
There is still time to apply for WMU's 23 short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs being offered in 2014 and a special scholarship is available.
The Haenicke Institute for Global Education Study Abroad Scholarship offers need- and merit-based scholarships for short-term study abroad programs directed by WMU faculty in late spring, summer I and summer II semesters. Need-based awards are worth up to $1,500; merit-based awards are worth up to $1,000. Eligible students may apply for one or both awards.
We strongly suggest that you apply for a passport as soon as you begin to consider studying abroad. If you already have a passport, it is important to check the expiration date, as the passport should be valid a minimum of 6 months after the end of your study abroad program. If you need a new passport or need to renew an expired passport, we suggest that you apply a minimum of 8 weeks or more prior to your departure.
The fee to apply for a new passport book is $135; the fee to renew an expired passport is $110. If you need the passport in a shorter time period, you may request expedited processing, which will take 2-3 weeks and will cost an additional $60. For further instructions on how to apply for or renew a passport, please visit: U.S. Department of State passport information
Please keep in mind that many countries require visas for students wishing to study at their universities. The visa process can take a few months and you must submit your passport with your visa application. For more information on foreign entry requirements in the country of proposed study, please visit:
