WMU Programs

Utilizing the Study Abroad Reference Area and this website, research program choices and create a top-3 list.  Complete the online application for your first choice program, then contact the study abroad office to make an appointment to meet with a study abroad coordinator (269-387-5890, study-abroad@wmich.edu) to learn about additional requirements. Applications must be submitted prior to the program application deadline noted on the online program profile.  Applicants are generally advised of acceptance within one month of the program application deadline. Click here for online application.

Non-WMU Programs

Students planning to study abroad in a non-WMU program must first complete the host institution's application and receive a letter of acceptance. Upon official acceptance to a specific non-WMU program or institution, contact the study abroad office to make an appointment to meet with a study abroad coordinator (269-387-5890, study-abroad@wmich.edu) to pick up a non-WMU study abroad application packet.

Your study abroad coordinator will provide you with a Course Pre-Approval Form (blue sheet), which you will have to complete with your academic advisor(s). This process must be completed to ensure all courses taken overseas will count toward your WMU degree.

Return the completed course pre-approval form signed by your academic advisor with your completed application packet to your study abroad coordinator prior to the program application deadline.  Be sure to include:

  • Completed, signed Course Pre-Approval Form (blue sheet)
  • Completed Non-WMU Study Abroad Application Packet
  • A copy of your passport
  • One passport-quality photo
  • Unofficial transcript of all higher-education institutions attended
  • Copy of your acceptance letter
  • A Copy of Your Travel Itinerary
