Chinese culture courses open to campus and community

The Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University will be offering non-WMU credit Chinese culture courses to WMU students and the local community beginning spring 2010. Course offerings include Chinese cooking, Chinese painting, Chinese crafts, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Chinese music and instruments, and Tai Chi.

Participants will be eligible to receive Confucius Institute scholarships for study abroad in China at the end of the program.

Registration for courses is on a first come, first served basis, and the course fee must be paid at the time of registration. To learn more and to register for a course, please visit the Confucius Institute at WMU website at www.wmich.edu/confucius, or email
wmu-confucius@wmich.edu.

These Chinese culture course offerings represent part of the greater mission of the Confucius Institute to provide new Chinese language and cultural studies options for WMU students and faculty and to dramatically expand international opportunities for southwest Michigan residents.

Established on July 7, 2009, the non-profit Confucius Institute at Western Michigan University was created through a partnership between Western Michigan University and Beijing Language and Culture University. It is the fourth such institution in Michigan and the 61st to be founded in the United States.
