Haenicke Institute for Global Education
Scholarship for Study Abroad
for WMU faculty-led programs

 The Haenicke Institute for Global Education offers need- and merit-based scholarships for short-term study abroad programs directed by WMU faculty in late spring, summer I and summer II semesters. Need-based awards are worth up to $1,500; merit-based awards are worth up to $1,000.

Eligible students may apply for one or both awards. Twenty-one short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs are being offered in 2013 and are eligible for scholarship consideration. Program list follows; titles are linked to comprehensive program brochures.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment  in a WMU degree-granting program; students who have completed WMU degree requirements are not eligible for this scholarship. The cost estimate from the online program brochure (list follows) is the official financial aid budget. Applicants who have not filed a FAFSA with the WMU Financial Aid office are not eligible for need-based awards.
  • All WMU students may be considered for merit-based award on competitive basis – GPA 3.0 or higher.
  • U.S. citizens or permanent residents may also apply for need-based awards, which are based on demonstrated financial need (FAFSA required) and expected family contribution (EFC) calculation.
  • Admission and commitment (deposit made) to a summer study abroad program taught by WMU faculty.
