Business Relationships
in London and Paris

My study abroad experience has definitely enhanced my academic pursuits. It was interesting to learn how each country conducts business in regards to business-to-business and business-to-consumer relationships. I was able to identify many similarities to how we do things in the United States, but there were also noticeable differences. It was very interesting to compare and contrast the different retail stores, markets, local business establishments and other cultural norms that help drive each economy. If I ever pursue some sort of international business venture, I would be able to adapt easily and possibly have an upper hand over someone who hasn’t had this type of experience.

One of my favorite things to do is travel, and visiting Europe definitely broadened my horizons. There were so many things to see, do and observe. My favorite thing about Paris was the extravagant architecture. Everything had so much culture and history which was really amazing to see. It was also interesting to talk to the locals. In Paris, it was kind of hard to break the language barrier, but once I did I found out that the people were pretty nice. I think that this trip has made me become more appreciative and knowledgeable about other cultures.

Being a Spanish minor, I don’t think I had as much trouble communicating as some of the group. I found a lot of similarities in the language, and I was able to use logic to figure certain things out. Also, Ann Ganz taught us many French phrases and words that really helped out when talking to the locals. In addition to the language barrier, France has a different culture. The way that they communicate and behave is considerably different from how we behave in the U.S. You have to make sure you are respectful of their culture and how to greet them or you could come off as a stereotypically rude American.

I am very grateful I had the opportunity to experience such a great program. This experience has helped me gain more knowledge and helped me grow as an individual.
