This year marks the 10th anniversary of the program, which will be celebrated with a series of events in the coming months to commemorate the relationship between WMU and UBU. Currently, there are 21 WMU students studying at UBU for the fall semester. Two hundred students have participated in the program over the past decade studying Spanish language, history, and art, as well as attending a wide variety of cultural activities and excursions.
Inés Praga, the vice-chancellor of International Relations and Cooperation at UBU, said of the program: “Western Michigan University has trusted in Universidad de Burgos and has maintained the program [for 10 years]. It is a great pleasure and proves our capacity as a university to offer a Spanish language and culture course with such professionalism.” Michael Braun, WMU faculty director of the Burgos program, was also interviewed for the article.
"Spanish education majors greatly benefit from this experience because they can enter the classroom with first-hand knowledge of the culture," Braun said. "Students studying other disciplines also benefit because they gain agility in the Spanish language, as well as the confidence to speak it. Diario de Burgos article (published in Spanish) |
