seeks director of intensive ESL program

The Career English Language Center for International Students (CELCIS) at Western Michigan University was founded in 1975 and is fully accredited. Its eleven faculty specialists and six master faculty specialists hold advanced training in ESL and/or applied linguistics. Some of the faculty positions are tenure track. CELCIS is one of two intensive English programs in Michigan accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA) and is a member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP) and University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP). CELCIS enrolls more than 100 students per term.

Under the direction of the Dean of the Haenicke Institute for Global Education, this position manages the daily operations of CELCIS and English 3600/3610 courses, recruits, and oversees preparation of international students for study at the University.

• Work closely with the Dean, Senior Institute Staff, and CELCIS faculty to expand the programs offered through CELCIS to serve/meet the needs of a wider range of international students in keeping with the expanding scope of Western Michigan’s global and international programs.
• Recruit international students for the University and CELCIS.
• Represent CELCIS and the University effectively in external and internal relations.
• Meet the needs of international CELCIS students regarding curriculum and student services.
• Plan, budget, and manage the program’s finances.
• Provide leadership to Language Specialists and staff.
• Supervise faculty and staff, including all employment decisions and evaluation.

• Master's Degree in TESL, Applied Linguistics or related field required, PhD preferred (tenure negotiable for suitable candidate)
• Ten years' experience teaching ESL to non native speakers in a post secondary educational setting.
• Demonstrated experience in university intensive English program development, curriculum development, international student recruitment, management and supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire and evaluate instructional staff.
