Faculty Grant to participate on
a Summer 2008 WMU faculty-led study abroad program

The Haenicke Institute has established a grant to provide hands-on experience in the important group dynamic that is a key component of intensive summer study abroad programs taught by WMU faculty. The grant will contribute towards expenses to a maximum of 75% for participating in one of the summer 2008 programs taught by WMU faculty. Recipients will be encouraged to propose a program they will lead within the next three years.

The following programs are eligible for summer 2008:

Mexico Immersion in Health Care (Fuller) 05/10 - 06/21
Modern and Contemporary Art in Paris (Thompson) 05/04 - 05/22
Japan Religion and Culture (Covell) 05/27 - 06/11
Intensive Arabic in Egypt (Mughazy) 05/06 - 06/05
Nanotechnology Research in Brazil (Ari-Gur) 07/26 - 08/31
Intensive Spanish in Santander (Perez de la Cruz) 06/09 - 07/31
Russian Language and Culture (Nisula) 06/16 - 07/02

(NB: All programs subject to cancellation if insufficient enrollment)

Eligibility:

  • Eligibility to lead a WMU study abroad program as determined by department, college, and the Haenicke Institute, i.e. continuing appointment or special approval of department and college)
  • Ability to participate actively in a minimum of ¾ of the program (ranging from 2-6 weeks)
  • Signature of department chair and dean
  • Approval of faculty director of the program
