Dean's Scholarship for Summer Study Abroad
for
WMU faculty-led programs

The Haenicke Institute for Global Education offers need-based scholarships worth up to $1,500 for summer I and summer II study abroad programs taught by WMU faculty. The following programs are eligible for summer 2009 (faculty director in parentheses):

1.  Leisure & Sport in Ancient Rome (de Lisle)
2.  Civilization and Geology, Egypt (Mughazy & Gillespie)
3.  Tropical Biology in Belize (Vonhof)
4.  Engineering in China (Qi)
5.  Chinese Language and Culture (Wang)
6.  The Grand Tour of Europe (ten Harmsel)
7.  Exploring Health & Healthcare Systems in South Africa (Bensley)
8.  Geography of Mexico & the Caribbean in Queretaro (Cameron)
9.  Modern and Contemporary Art in Paris (Thompson)
10. Global Business in Thailand & Japan (Leingpibul)
11. Intensive Arabic in Egypt (Mughazy)
12. Nanotechnology Research in Brazil (Ari-Gur)
13. Intensive Spanish in Santander (Perez de la Cruz)
14. International Comparative Healthcare in Slovakia (Sadler)
15. Prague Summer Program (Katrovas et al)
16. Queretaro Graduate Program (Nibert & Lopez)
17. International Perspectives on Care of Older Persons (Chase & Mickus)
18. Lyon (Curtis-Smith)
19. Mexico Immersion in Health Care (Fuller)

Minimum Qualifications:
 
1.Demonstrated financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) .  Financial need will be based on the  expected family contribution (EFC) for fall and spring semesters. The cost estimate from the on-line program profile  (www.wmich.edu/studyabroad ) is the official financial aid budget. Applicants who have not filed a FAFSA with the WMU Financial Aid Office will  not be eligible.
2. Admission to an eligible study abroad program prior to the scholarship application deadline.  Please apply for the scholarship at the same   time you apply to the study abroad program.
3. Enrollment in a WMU degree-granting program.
4. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency.



DEADLINE PERIOD OF STUDY
Same as program application deadline Summer I, Summer II

Notification of results – early to mid-April.
