The Haenicke Institute for Global Education collaborates with the International Education Council (IEC) of the WMU Faculty Senate to advance the internationalization of the University learning experience. Additionally, the institutue works closely with the internationlization committees of WMU's colleges.

On April 6, 2006, the IEC presented a Framework for Internationalization at its International Education Forum to the WMU Faculty Senate

On January 10, 2008, Dr. Donald G. McCloud addressed the Faculty Senate on the topic of Preparing Western's Graduates for the Globalized 21st Century.

The Internationalization Collaborative of the American Council on Education and the Commission on International Programs of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (formerly the National Association of Land-Grant Universities and Colleges) have informed the efforts of the IEC from its inception.

ACE Internationalization Laboratory

Western Michigan University is participating in the American Council on Education's Internationalization Laboratory, a two-year program of assessment and planning aimed at strengthening the international education components of our undergraduate curriculum.

Over the course of the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 academic years, an array of activities guided by the ACE Laboratory format will be undertaken at WMU. Professor Maira Bundza, chair of the IEC, and Dr. Donald McCloud, dean of the Haenicke Institute, are co-chairing the initiative.
